Volunteer Frequently Asked Questions


How old do you need to be to volunteer?

Volunteers at The Salvation Army, Manatee must be at least 18 years old, with the exception of a few holiday/seasonal opportunities.

High school/youth groups facilitated by school staff, church staff or a civic group leader may be able to volunteer for a special project. Contact Melissa.Fernandez@uss.salvationarmy.org or call 941-748-5110 for inquiries.


What is the process to become a volunteer?

Volunteers will need to complete and submit a volunteer application before serving. Attendance at a volunteer orientation is required for all new volunteers.  Please, register for a monthly orientation session (summer months excluded) after completing your application.


Can I just “walk-in” to volunteer?

No.  Volunteer schedules are created 4-6 weeks in advance.


What volunteer needs do you have?

Do you offer internships?

The Salvation Army, Manatee does not offer formally recognized internships.  However, if you are interested in volunteering with us while you are in school or during your off season, contact Melissa.Fernandez@uss.salvationarmy.org or call 941-748-5110.


Can I complete my court ordered community service hours here?

Yes. You must be at least 18 years old and will need to call the main office at 941-748-5110 to learn more about completing your hours. Please tell the receptionist you are requesting court ordered community service opportunities.
