THE CLEARWATER CORPS LIBRARY MODEL
CORPS LIBRARY COLLECTION
The Clearwater Corps library collection reflects the interests of the congregation. There are works of fiction and non-fiction, books and DVD's, for all levels. The collection is organized by subject and then by author. Check out the subject list provided by the Clearwater Corps Library.
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION
The Clearwater Corps library is not in some back room, off of the beaten track. It is located in the foyer of the corps, and is highly visible to anyone entering the building. Those leaving the Sunday service walk past the door, and can see all that the library has to offer through the glass windows and door. The environment is both convenient and inviting.
A DEDICATED LIBRARIAN
The number one reason that the Clearwater Corps Library is successful is the dedication of the librarian to the cause. The corps has been able to have someone who oversees the collection development and organization. Most importantly, the Librarian works every Sunday to be sure that the library is staffed. The corps librarian markets the collection through the Sunday bulletin, describing new books and making sure that the library remains visible through that resource. She also gives book talks at corps group meetings, and does story time with the kids in the Army's Day Care program.
KNOW YOUR CONGREGATION
A successful corps librarian is one who is in touch with the reading habits of the congregation as well as the current Sunday School class topics. This knowledge guides ordering as well as marketing of the collection. New books are advertised in the corps bulletin and through the corps website. Book talks are a vital part of the corps program.
