Back to School Backpack Giveaway and Family Fun Day
The Salvation Army in Venice is now accepting registrations for its annual Backpack Giveaway and Family Fun Day on August 5. This annual event will provide families in financial need with backpacks and school supplies for their children in grades K through 12. Besides providing school supplies, the event will feature face-painting, a bounce house, popcorn, Family Store clothing vouchers and drawings for prizes.
To register, prior to the event a parent or guardian must supply ID, a birth certificate for each child, verification of income, and proof of residency in Nokomis, Laurel, Venice or North Port, portions of Englewood & Osprey (based on Zip Code). In addition, to receive backpacks and vouchers, a parent or guardian must be present at the event. Register at The Salvation Army, 1051 Albee Farm Road, Venice, from 9 a.m. – noon and 1-4 p.m. Mon-Fri, or 4940 Pan American Blvd., North Port, from 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. Mon-Fri. Family Fun Day begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5 and runs through 2 p.m. at the Albee Farm Road location.
