Volunteer Frequently Asked Questions

How old do you need to be to volunteer?

Volunteers at The Salvation Army, Manatee must be at least 18 years old.  However, we offer some holiday/seasonal volunteer opportunities for those under 18.

Youth groups facilitated an adult leader may be able to volunteer for a special project. Contact Melissa.Fernandez@uss.salvationarmy.org or call 941-748-5110 for inquiries.


What is the process to become a volunteer?

  • Complete and submit a volunteer application.
  • Register for a monthly orientation session after completing your application.
  • Attend a volunteer orientation.


Can I just “walk-in” to volunteer?

No.  In most cases, volunteer schedules are created 4-6 weeks in advance.


What volunteer needs do you have?

Volunteer needs often change. Contact our Volunteer Coordinator for the most current needs.


Do you offer internships?

The Salvation Army, Manatee does not offer formally recognized internships.  If you are interested in volunteering with us while you are in school, contact Melissa.Fernandez@uss.salvationarmy.org or call 941-748-5110.


Can I complete my court ordered community service hours here?

Yes. You must be at least 18 years old.  Please call 941-748-5110 and tell the receptionist you are requesting court ordered community service opportunities.
