“To say that I am humbled by this gift is an understatement,” said Major Tim Gilliam, Area Commander for The Salvation Army of Lee, Hendry & Glades Counties. “This gift is an answer to prayer. The Schulze family has made giving back a priority and through this matching funds challenge, they will inspire others to give as well. We will use this money as effectively as possible to change people’s lives for the better.”
Funds raised in the Red Kettle Drive support The Salvation Army’s programs at Christmas and throughout the year, including shelters for homeless families, feeding programs, medical and dental care, addiction services and more. More than 30,000 people were helped by The Salvation Army of Lee, Hendry & Glades Counties last year.
The Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation is driven to improve the lives of others, particularly U.S. middle- and working-class families, through results-oriented investments in human & social services, education, health, and entrepreneurship with a special focus on metropolitan Minneapolis and St. Paul and Lee and Collier counties in Florida.
A desire to identify and fund “transformational change to benefit mankind” led Dick Schulze to start The Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation in 2004. In June 2013, Schulze announced plans to gradually expand the Foundation from $100 million to about $1 billion.
