Holiday Help: The Salvation Army Accepting Applications for Seasonal Assistance
PITTSBURGH (October 8, 2025) – The Salvation Army of Western Pennsylvania is now accepting applications for holiday assistance, including the organization’s beloved Angel Tree tradition. Each year, children create wish lists that are shared with hundreds of companies, small businesses, churches and individuals. Across 28 counties in Western Pa., gifts and toys are collected and sorted by hundreds of volunteers at various Salvation Army locations, then given to families to put under the tree for Christmas day.
Last season, The Salvation Army Western Pennsylvania Division Angel Tree Program distributed more than 100,000 toys to children. Visit salvationarmywpa.org/AngelTree to view a chart to find contact information for your local Salvation Army location. If you do not see your ZIP code listed, please call (412) 446-1500 for referral to your local Salvation Army.
The holidays are a time for family and friends to gather and celebrate. Yet for many, it is a period of deep isolation and loneliness. In addition to Angel Tree, The Salvation Army makes sure individuals and families in need and those without a home for the holidays have something to eat. The Salvation Army proudly gives the gift of a full stomach by hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, delivering hot meals, and stocking essential food pantries. Throughout November and December, The Salvation Army prepares and distributes thousands of meals, turkeys, grocery store gift cards and nonperishable food baskets across the region.
The upcoming annual Red Kettle Campaign is essential and ensures The Salvation Army can continue its critical services all year long which include feeding programs, rent and utility assistance, seasonal assistance, youth empowerment and spiritual programs. Visit salvationarmywpa.org or text the word ‘Kettle’ to 31333 to make a donation before the holiday season begins.
