POSITION: Substance Abuse Counselor
STATUS: Part-time

LOCATION: Adult Rehabiliation Center—San Francisco, CA
SALARY: $14/Hr


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current certification as an AOD Counselor meeting State of California Certification requirements.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in the field of chemical dependency services with a sound knowledge of management, social services and 12-Step AA/NA program.
  • Ability to work effectively with others with demonstrated leadership qualities.
  • Integrity, resourcefulness, initiative and evidence of self-improvement.
  • Professional judgment and integrity in holding in confidence all information pertaining to beneficiaries, families and co-workers.
  • Demonstrated ability to support and apply the philosophy and religious goals of The Salvation Army ARC Program.
  • No evidence of existing chemical dependency.
  • If chemically dependent, shall be free of and have had at least four years free of chemical abuse or dependency.
  • Willingness to comply with The Salvation Army Counselor Code of Ethics as evidenced by signed agreements.
  • Professional judgment and integrity in holding in confidence all information pertaining to beneficiaries, families and co-workers.
  • Commitment to support and apply the philosophy and goals of The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center Program and the ARC Mission Statement.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and other office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly on the telephone.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Ability to perform various repetitive motion tasks

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  1. Assist beneficiaries to understand and overcome social and emotional problems through individual and process group counseling.
  2. Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessment interviews with newly admitted beneficiaries.
  3. Keep beneficiary files up-to-date with proper documentation of counseling and class activities for those beneficiaries assigned.
  4. Develop individual Rehabilitation Plans for beneficiaries seen in counseling.
  5. Conduct education classes as assigned.
  6. Lead other groups or classes as assigned by the Rehabilitation Manager.
  7. Teach classes in the program's educational component as assigned by the Rehabilitation Manager.
  8. Document and maintain appropriate Progress Notes in beneficiary files.
  9. Assess spiritual needs of beneficiaries seen in counseling and make referrals to Chaplain a needed.
  10. Serve as back-up to other counselors as needed.
